Site Preparation
Ensure a level, stable foundation that can support the pump and motor weight plus dynamic loads during operation. Provide adequate drainage and access for maintenance.
Suction Piping
- Keep suction lines as short and straight as possible
- Use pipe sizes equal to or larger than pump suction flange
- Install a strainer to prevent debris ingestion
- Ensure all joints are airtight
The suction line should slope continuously upward to the pump to prevent air pockets. An eccentric reducer (flat side up) should be used at the pump inlet.
Discharge Piping
Include an isolation valve and check valve. Support piping independently – never use the pump as a pipe support. Include provisions for pump removal.
Startup Procedure
- Verify all connections are complete and tight
- Prime the pump (if not auto-prime)
- Check motor rotation direction
- Open suction valve fully
- Start pump with discharge valve partially closed
- Slowly open discharge valve to operating point
